Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Tree Dedication Honoring 50 Years of U.S. Peace Corps Service Monday, August 29th at 1:00 p.m. at Federal Plaza (corner of Adams and Dearborn Sts.,in Chicago)

Please join the Chicago Area Peace Corps Association (CAPCA) and the Chicago Regional Peace Corps Office in commemorating the legacy of all Peace Corps Volunteers who have served around the world since 1961 promoting global peace, friendship and understanding on behalf of the United States.

To honor this milestone, we will dedicate a tree and plaque in Federal Plaza, downtown Chicago, to serve as an enduring tribute to the 5,300 volunteers from the greater Chicago area who have served through the years and all future Peace Corps Volunteers.

TRAVEL and PARKING advice for Peace Corps 50th Anniversary event at Federal Plaza.

Federal Plaza is on the 200 South Dearborn block. We will be closest to Adams and Dearborn Streets. There are construction fences around part of the plaza.  The plaza has a large Orange sculpture that makes it easily identifiable. The Loop Post Office and the Kluczynski Building (230 S Dearborn) are also on the plaza.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION:

The CTA Red line stop is Jackson at State.  Walk one block west to Dearborn and north a half a block towards Adams Street and the event site.

The CTA Blue line stop is Jackson.  You will exit on Dearborn close or into the Federal Plaza complex. Look for the Orange sculpture and the event is one half block north at Adams Street.

The CTA Brown & Orange lines closest stop is Harold Washington Library stop at Van Buren.  Walk west to Dearborn and then north 1 ½ blocks to Federal Plaza and Adams St.

The CTA Green & Pink Line stop is Adams at Wabash.  Exit and walk 2 blocks west to Adams and Dearborn.

Buses: Almost all CTA buses that come into the Loop, particularly Michigan Avenue, State Street, Clark, Dearborn or LaSalle Streets will bring you close to Federal Plaza.  Exit at Monroe, Adams or Jackson streets for the closest cross street.  The # 151 stops on Adams St. across from Federal Plaza.  Plan your trip at www.rtachicago.org.

METRA: All 4 Metra stations will bring you into the Loop and within walking distance (less than a mile) to Federal Plaza. Get train information at www.metrarail.com

PARKING:  Parking in the Loop is expensive (approximately $30 for 2 through 12 hours) and scarce. Most Loop streets are one way.  The closest garages are:

South Loop Self Park, 318 South Federal.  Federal is between Dearborn and Clark Streets.  318 south is between Van Buren and Jackson Streets. Entrance is closer to Van Buren Street. This garage is about 2 blocks from Federal Plaza. This garage is closest to the Plymouth Restaurant reception.

Adams & Wabash Self Park.  This garage is located on Adams between State and Wabash Streets on the south side of the street. It is about 1 ½ blocks from Federal Plaza.

131 South Dearborn and the 33 West Monroe Garage are both located between Adams and Monroe Streets entering off Dearborn Street.  There are two garages at this location across the alley from each other.  These garages are about ½ block from the plaza.
