CAPCA’s After-Party is at Monk’s Pub from 8-10. Monk’s is at 205 W. Lake Street (Lake & Wells). There will be a ton of free food and great drink specials! Head to the back of the bar for our semi-private area.
By ANNIE, on May 11th, 2011 Hey CAPCA Members!
Join us at this month’s CAPCA Dinner, Thursday May 19th at Turkish Cuisine!
Turkish Cuisine serves… you guessed it… Turkish Food! Peace Corps first went to Turkey in 1962, the same year we removed U.S. missiles from Turkey as a part of an agreement to end the Cuban missile crisis! Probably not a coincidence.
So let’s celebrate the Peace Corps’s role in averting nuclear disaster by gatherin’ for a slatherin’ of Turkish Cuisine.
The cost will be $22 per person (cash only!) which includes tax and tip. They’re basically going to bring out a small portion of 10-15 dishes, some meat, some vegetarian, so there should be something for everyone!
Turkish Cuisine is at 5605 N Clark St., a few blocks west of the Berwyn Red Line stop. Street parking, casual dress, and BYOB!
Please RSVP to me (rishidesai gmail com) if you’re going to be able to make it! Bring a bottle of wine (no corking fee!).
We’ll meet at the restaurant at 6:30ish, and will be getting dinner around 7pm.
In summary:
Who: CAPCA members, friends of CAPCA members, family of CAPCA members, and unrequited love interests of CAPCA members
What: CAPCA BYOB Dinner, $22 cash per person
Where: Turkish Cusine, 5605 N Clark St
When: Thursday, May 19th, 6:30pm
Why: Something to do with the Cuban Missile Crisis
RSVP: to rishidesai gmail com
Hope you can make it!

By ANNIE, on February 8th, 2011 On March 1st, 1961, John F. Kennedy signed the executive order establishing the Peace Corps. You are invited to celebrate that historic occasion at the Peace Corps 50th Birthday Party on March 1st, 2011.
Together, CAPCA, Hostelling International(HI)-Chicago, the Chicago Peace Corps office, and Chicago Public School students are sponsoring a “pot-luck” Peace Corps 50th Birthday Party. The party will be at HI-Chicago on 24 E. Congress Parkway from 5:30pm-8:00pm. International travelers at the hostel as well as CPS students interested in international service volunteering and staff from HI-Chicago will join us to eat soups representing Peace Corps countries of service and light candles before singing “Happy Birthday” to Peace Corps! The event is free, but CAPCA members are asked to bring either bread or cupcakes to share. The soups will be provided.
The schedule:
5:30pm: Event begins (come earlier if you’d like to help set up)
5:45pm: Hostel tour for anyone interested
6:00pm: Dinner is Served
6:45pm: A few words from the Peace Corps Office, members of CAPCA, and
members of HI-Chicago about global exchange, service, and friendship
and discussion of service opportunities at the Hostel. After this, we
will light the candles and sing.
7:30pm: Another Hostel tour for anyone interested
8:00pm: Students excused, excursion to a local music event at Buddy Guy’s for international hostel guests and any interested CAPCA members (so keep your schedule open afterward if you’d like to tag along and show some visitors our great city)
Please RSVP to doll (dot) christian (at) gmail (dot) com by February 22nd if you’d like to come to this fun event! Hope to see you there.
