Chicagoan Ron Cox, who served in Liberia in the 1970s, will talk about his experience returning to his country of service with Peace Corps Response, and then being evacuated this month from Liberia after the ebola outbreak.  Were you also evacuated from Liberia, Sierra Leone, or Guinea? The Bud Billiken Parade and Picnic is the oldest and largest African American parade in the United States.  During the Great Depression, the fictional Bud Billiken character from a Chicago newspaper served as a symbol of pride, happiness and hope for black residents. The focus of the parade is getting kids ready for school. The parade features celebrities, politicians, businessmen, civic organizations and youth. Sign up to volunteer with the Peace Corps Office and earn a free day-pass to Pitchfork! The music festival, in Chicago’s West Loop, features a lineup including Beck, Neutral Milk Hotel, St. Vincent, Sun Kill Moon, and dozens of others. Volunteers will help check wristbands, assist the music artists and occasionally pick up trash.
