The Bud Billiken Parade and Picnic is the oldest and largest African American parade in the United States.  During the Great Depression, the fictional Bud Billiken character from a Chicago newspaper served as a symbol of pride, happiness and hope for black residents. Sign up to volunteer with the Peace Corps Office and earn a free day-pass to Pitchfork! The music festival, in Chicago’s West Loop, features a lineup including Beck, Neutral Milk Hotel, St. Vincent, Sun Kill Moon, and dozens of others.
