Story Slam Celebrating Peace Corps Week

Posted in: News

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Story Slam and Membership Drive in honor of National Peace Corps Week! A special thanks to our six wonderful participants who shared stories about their service and the enduring lessons their experience taught them. We were deeply touched by stories about a lost moment of honesty, a student punished after finally learning to question authority, and the struggle of re-entering the States.¬†And we laughed at a misadventure across the Saharan desert, a language error that led to an international boxing bout, and the image of an entire street full of host country nationals chasing down a PCV’s would-be pickpocket. These stories, while outlandish, also seemed deeply familiar to all of us who have experienced the same loneliness, frustration, empowerment, and friendships.

We extend our appreciation to Half Acre Brewery for hosting us and helping make this event a big success! We learned that the expert brewers of the famous Daisy Cutter ale are also warm hosts and friendly tour guides. CAPCA was successful in signing up or renewing 35 members. Welcome to CAPCA and thanks for your support.
